Nova Scotia’s Dave Gunning ties Bruce Cockburn with 4 Canadian Folk Music Award Nominations

Toronto, ON – October 20, 2011 - The Canadian Folk Music Awards announced the nominees for its 2011 awards gala Wednesday. The seventh annual awards will be held in Toronto on Sunday, December 4.

In the lead this year with four nominations each are the lyrically gifted veteran Bruce Cockburn and Pictou County Nova Scotia’s Dave Gunning. Cockburn’s latest offering Small Source of Comfort is nominated for Contemporary Album of the Year, Contemporary Singer of the Year, Solo Artist of the Year and English Songwriter of the Year. Gunning, whose immense talent is rooted in his Nova Scotian upbringing, recently released A tribute to John Allan Cameron which has garnered four nods as well for Traditional Album of the Year, Traditional Singer of the Year, New/Emerging Artist of the Year and Producer of the Year.

Other performers from Atlantic Canada that have received nominations include; Prince Edward Island’s Ashley Condon for “Country Recording of The Year” and New Emerging Artist, Ron Hynes has two nominations. Mathew Barber is nominated in the Contemporary Singer of the Year along with Davie Myles; and Molly Thomason has been nominated for Young Performer of the Year.
