Federal Government Arts Grants Announced by Heritage Canada

 

 

 

 

 

Dieppe, New Brunswick, May 24, 2012 - Support for 49 projects in New Brunswick has been announced by James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. The funding supports a wide range of organizations and projects across the province, including many local festivals and cultural organizations. Groups and initiatives receiving support include the New Brunswick Foundation for the Arts, the Festival acadien de Caraquet, the Fredericton Playhouse, and Saint John’s Imperial Theatre. The Government of Canada has provided total funding of $2,594,286 through various programs of the Department of Canadian Heritage. $165,350 was set aside for Aboriginal Languagues Initiative to support the preservation and revitalization of Aboriginal languages. Other projects to receive funding are listed below: Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.

The Community Life component aims to enable the federal government to work with partners to offer official-language minority communities access to services in their own language, as well as the infrastructure necessary to ensure their growth and development.

The Promotion of Linguistic Duality component of the Enhancement of Official Languages Program aims to help organizations from various sectors undertake or continue activities that promote a better understanding or appreciation of linguistic duality and to build stronger linguistic and cultural links among members of the two official-language communities.
