Cape Breton, Ireland and Scotland Form Compelling Sound of The Outside Track

Vancouver, BC – July 27, 2012 - Cape Breton native Mairi Rankin is part of an increasingly popular group of traditional musicians that blend Canadian, Scottish and Irish Music.

The Outside Track's members hail from Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton and Vancouver. The lineup comprises Norah Rendell (Canadian Traditional Singer of the Year nominee), Mairi Rankin (Beolach), Ailie Robertson (Live Ireland Winner, BBC Young Trad Finalist), Fiona Black (BBC Fame Academy Winner), and Cillian O'Dalaigh.

In our interview with Mairi Rankin, she points out they walk a fine line of maintaining the traditional sound, but adding new influences like jazz to the music. We reached Mairi in Vancouver as she was preparing to fly to France.

The five members are united by a love of traditional music and a commitment to creating new music on its foundation. Using fiddle, accordion, harp, guitar, flute, step-dance and vocals, their show is known for the energy.

The band have enjoyed 5 years of extensive touring in the UK, Europe, Canada and the USA, including appearances at Celtic Connections, Celtic Colours, Goderich, Mission, Memoire et Racines, Sidmouth, and Whitby Festivals. False Knight from the soon to be released album, “Flash Company.”
